As you are all well aware the entire Northeastern Seaboard is
preparing for a storm which by all accounts will be of historic
proportions. The East Meadow Soccer Club has been intensely
monitoring the situation to see how we should respond to this
situation. We are firmly committed to the fact that the safety and
well being of all of the players and their families MUST be the
ultimatepriority. We know many people have been looking forward
to the tournament this weekend, and we have had countless
volunteers working thousands of hours preparing for the tournament.
This is our 33rd year of running this tournament and we have
weathered many storms over these last decades, however this
storm seems to be shaping up to be something very different.
Recent forecasts have many of our facilities directly in the path of
the approaching hurricane. As such, many of our local
municipalities have already closed their fields for the entire
weekend.
We expect most of the others will do the same as
the day goes
on. We feel we cannot wait any longer to make a
decision, as
we have families who will be traveling great
distances to get here
Therefore, in the interest of the safety of all of the players and
their
famiies, and due to the fact that many of our fields
have already
been closed by the local municipalities we are
formally canceling
all tournament events and games this weekend.
Please keep
yourselves and your families safe during the storm
and let's all hope
that it is nowhere near as bad as expected.
The East Meadow Soccer Club Tournament Committee and Board
of
Directors will be meeting extensively over the next several weeks
to
determine how to best handle the cancelling of this weekend's
events. All options will be considered, including rescheduling and a
host
of other options. We pride ourselves on the fact that that over
the years we have always done the right thing. This year will be no
different. We will examine all options and we will be
communicating
with you in the next several weeks as to how we
will be addressing
this. Rest assured, the interests of all
of those that have supported
us over the years will be our
main concern. You have our word that
we will make every
effort to make this right in the best way that we
possibly can.
We know how disappointed many of you are, and many of us as
well. However, with our fields being closed by the municipalities'
and with the safety of the players and their families as the
ultimate priority, canceling this weekend's events is the only thing
to do. Please, lets not underestimate this storm, above all
else,
keep yourselves and your families safe this weekend.
